01 · DEFINITIONWhat Residency Flag means
The residency flag is a foundational element of Flag Theory. It is the country where you hold formal residence, the legal basis for staying there and, in most cases, the place that decides your tax exposure.
Choosing this flag matters more than any other. Residence status influences tax, banking access, day-to-day compliance duties and your future mobility. Countries apply very different rules for what counts as residence, from simple registration to strict physical presence tests.
Within the GoodbyeMatrix approach, the residency flag is never evaluated alone. It interacts with your Citizenship Flag and your Business Flag, because residence rules trigger obligations that ripple through every other part of your setup.
There are 3 typical uses. A residency where you actually live. A Plan B residency you hold without living there, such as Panama with one entry every 2 years. And a compliance residency that gives banks a tax number, such as Paraguay.
Under Flag Theory 3.0 the residency flag becomes several islands: a place to live, a formal address for contracts and a door you can walk through if your home country tightens the rules.
Our residency programme database compares the options by investment, presence and tax system. Which flag fits your plan is what we sort out with you before you commit to a move or a filing.
