01 · DEFINITIONWhat Source of Funds means
Source of Funds (SOF) documentation establishes the legal and transparent origin of capital being deployed into citizenship-by-investment programs, banking relationships, or high-value transactions. Required evidence typically includes bank statements, tax returns, business records, property valuations, investment account statements, and audit trails demonstrating clean capital accumulation.
CIUs (Citizenship Investment Units) and financial institutions require SOF verification as foundational AML/KYC (anti-money laundering / know-your-customer) compliance. They cannot approve applicants whose capital appears to originate from criminal activity, sanctions evasion, or opaque structures. Incomplete or inadequate SOF documentation creates processing delays, rejection risk, or reputational damage that can undermine an entire Sovereign Blueprint.
Entrepreneurs with complex wealth structures — multiple businesses, international property holdings, diversified investment portfolios — should prepare comprehensive SOF documentation early, typically 12 to 24 months before initiating a CBI or RBI application. Working with qualified accountants and legal advisors to structure and document wealth history significantly reduces friction in due diligence. Banks in major financial centers (Singapore, Switzerland, UAE, UK) apply similarly rigorous SOF standards for account opening.
