01 · OVERVIEWWhat makes this program stand out
The Golden Residence is the Bahrain visa with a 10-year term for investors, retirees and talented professionals. The Bahrain Golden Residence program offers foreign nationals and qualifying residents the opportunity to secure long-term stability in the Gulf region through 10-year renewable residency permits. Unlike traditional employment-based residency, this program provides multiple independent qualification routes designed to attract investors, retirees, and talented professionals. Applicants can qualify through property ownership with a minimum investment of BHD 130,000, through retirement status with demonstrated income (BHD 4,000 monthly for non-resident retirees, BHD 2,000 for local retirees' pensions, or an average salary of BHD 2,000 for resident employees), or through talent-based credentials. The renewable nature of the permit provides extended residency security without requiring continuous reinvestment beyond the initial qualification threshold, making it particularly suitable for those seeking a stable base in Bahrain for business, retirement, or professional purposes. Processing times are notably short, though specific durations vary by qualification route and individual circumstances.

What minimum capital commitment is required
The primary minimum capital commitment for the Bahrain Golden Residence is BHD 130,000, which must be invested through property ownership in Bahrain.
Alternative pathways exist with different financial thresholds depending on applicant category:
- Non-resident retirees: A monthly basic salary of minimum BHD 4,000 is required instead of property ownership.
- Resident employees: A minimum of 5 years work history with an average salary of BHD 2,000 is required.
- Local retirees: A requirement of 15 or more years work history in Bahrain with a pension exceeding BHD 2,000 is required.
- Talented individuals: No specific capital threshold is stated; nomination by a government agency is the qualifying condition.
Property ownership remains the standard capital-based route, while income and employment history serve as alternative qualifying metrics for specific residency categories.
What level of income you need to show
Income requirements for the Bahrain Golden Residence vary depending on applicant category.
Non-resident retirees must demonstrate a minimum monthly basic salary of BHD 4,000.
Resident employees are required to demonstrate an average salary of BHD 2,000. Applicants in this category must have a minimum of 5 years of work history to qualify.
Local retirees must demonstrate a pension exceeding BHD 2,000 monthly. This category requires a minimum of 15 years of work history in Bahrain.
Talented individuals nominated by a government agency are not subject to the standard income thresholds and requirements outlined above.
Income documentation must support the stated salary or pension figures for the respective applicant category. Applicants should be prepared to provide employment records, salary statements, or pension documentation corresponding to their classification.

04 · REQUIREMENTSWhat you need to qualify
Bahrain's Golden Residence permit offers five distinct qualification pathways, each with specific financial or professional thresholds. Applicants must satisfy one of these routes and provide supporting documentation demonstrating their eligibility.
- Property ownership: Own real estate in Bahrain valued at a minimum of BHD 130,000. Property value must be evidenced through official documentation.
- Non-resident retirees: Demonstrate a minimum monthly basic salary of BHD 4,000. This threshold applies to individuals retiring from employment outside Bahrain who wish to establish residency.
- Resident employees: Show a minimum of 5 years continuous work history in Bahrain with an average salary of at least BHD 2,000 throughout that period. Both employment duration and salary average must be verifiable.
- Local retirees: Provide evidence of 15 or more years of work history in Bahrain coupled with a current pension exceeding BHD 2,000 per month. Both the work history duration and pension threshold must be met.
- Talented individuals: Obtain a formal nomination from a Bahraini government agency recognizing exceptional skills, achievements, or expertise. This route depends entirely on official government endorsement.

06 · PATH TO CITIZENSHIPHow the path to citizenship works
The Bahrain Golden Residence permit does not provide a pathway to Bahraini citizenship, regardless of how long the permit is held or renewed. Citizenship in Bahrain is awarded exclusively by royal order and is not available through residency-based naturalization processes. Permit holders may renew their 10-year Golden Residence permits indefinitely, but this ongoing residency status does not create eligibility for citizenship or count toward any naturalization timeline.
There are no language requirements, physical presence thresholds, interviews, tests, or application procedures that would allow Golden Residence permit holders to apply for citizenship through standard administrative channels. The issuance of Bahraini nationality remains at the sole discretion of royal decree.
07 · LEGAL BASISWho oversees the program and what it is based on
The Bahrain Golden Residence program is administered by the Nationality, Passports & Residence Affairs (NPRA), which operates under the Ministry of Interior, Kingdom of Bahrain. The program is established and governed by Resolution No. 196 of 2022, issued by the Ministry of Interior.
