01 · DEFINITIONWhat Non-Dom Status means

Non-dom status is a special tax regime for people who are tax resident in a country but not considered domiciled there. Under such a regime, foreign income can fall outside the local tax base entirely, in part or only when it is remitted into the country.

The details differ by jurisdiction: eligibility periods, annual charges and transitional rules all vary.

The best known example was the United Kingdom. Its traditional non-dom regime ended on 6 April 2025 and was replaced by a time-limited foreign income and gains framework for new arrivals. That is the lesson: never assume a non-dom regime will still exist when you need it.

Malta and Cyprus keep regimes with a similar idea, each with its own conditions and charges.

Within GoodbyeMatrix planning, non-dom status is tied to Tax Residency / Tax Domicile and to Territorial Taxation, because all 3 concepts decide whether and how much of your foreign income becomes taxable where you live.

For internationally mobile entrepreneurs and investors these rules can offer real advantages. They only work when assessed for the specific country, your factual life pattern and the legal framework of 2026, and we never build a setup on one special regime alone.
