What makes this program stand out

Taiwan's Digital Nomad Visa is a formal residency permit specifically designed for remote workers who earn their income from foreign employers or clients. The program enables location-independent professionals to legally reside and work in Taiwan while maintaining employment or contractual relationships with companies located outside the country.

The qualification logic is straightforward. Applicants must demonstrate a minimum annual income of US$20,000 from foreign sources. This threshold establishes financial self-sufficiency and confirms that the applicant's work is genuinely remote and externally focused. The visa does not require local employment, local business registration, or integration into Taiwan's domestic labor market.

The program functions as a bridge between temporary tourist status and traditional work permits. It recognizes the operational reality of digital professionals whose employer or client base sits abroad. By offering legal residency specifically for this category, Taiwan provides administrative clarity and stability for internationally mobile workers who choose the country as their base.

What level of income you need to show

You must demonstrate US$20,000 annual income to qualify for the Taiwan Digital Nomad Visa. This translates to approximately US$1,667 per month.

Income must come from foreign sources. Self-employment, remote work for overseas clients or employers, and business revenue earned outside Taiwan all qualify. The income requirement applies to your current earning capacity, not accumulated savings or one-time payments.

You must provide documentation proving your income level. Acceptable proof typically includes bank statements showing consistent deposits, employment contracts from foreign employers, invoices and client agreements for freelance work, or business tax returns demonstrating foreign-sourced revenue. The documentation should clearly show income arriving from outside Taiwan over a recent period (usually the prior 3–6 months).

Taiwan immigration authorities assess whether your income is stable and verifiable. Irregular deposits, unclear payment sources, or sporadic income patterns may trigger requests for additional documentation or clarification before approval.

Find out which combination of residency, citizenship & structure actually fits your life

Most people live where they were born. Not where it makes strategic sense. They choose a country. Sovereign individuals build a setup.

A strong international setup considers:

  • tax systems
  • mobility
  • optionality
  • long-term security
  • a Plan B citizenship

Not just a visa.

In the strategy call, we evaluate which residency programs make strategic sense - and which ones could limit you long-term, create unnecessary obligations, or lead to avoidable tax exposure.

Build an international setup that gives you options - not dependencies.
