01 · OVERVIEWWhat makes this program stand out
The Digital Nomad Visa is the Mauritius visa for remote workers who meet the income threshold from abroad. The Mauritius Digital Nomad Visa is a residence permit designed for individuals who work remotely and can sustain their professional activities from anywhere. The program grants legal residency to applicants who meet specific remote work criteria and income thresholds.
Eligibility is based on your employment or business structure. You qualify if you work remotely for a foreign-registered company as an employee. You also qualify if you conduct business for a foreign company where you hold a stake as a shareholder or partner. Freelancers serving clients primarily based outside Mauritius are equally eligible under this framework.
The program requires applicants to demonstrate a minimum monthly income of US$1,500. This income threshold applies regardless of which remote work category you fall under. The visa enables you to reside in Mauritius while continuing your international work arrangements without local employment obligations.

What level of income you need to show
You must demonstrate monthly income of US$1,500 or more. This is the baseline threshold; income below this level does not qualify for the visa.
Qualifying income sources fall into three categories. First, employment with a foreign-registered company where you work remotely. Second, business ownership or partnership in a foreign company where you hold shareholder or partner status. Third, freelance work serving clients primarily based outside Mauritius. Income from Mauritius-based sources or employment with Mauritian employers does not qualify under this visa framework.
You must provide proof of remote work capability alongside income documentation. This establishes that your work is genuinely location-independent and can be conducted from Mauritius without violating your employer's or client's geographic restrictions. Standard documentation includes employment contracts, client engagement letters, or business registration documents demonstrating foreign operations.
Income verification typically requires recent bank statements, payroll records, or invoicing documentation showing the US$1,500 monthly threshold. For self-employed applicants, tax returns or business accounting records demonstrating consistent qualifying income are standard. The documentation must be recent enough to reflect your current earning capacity, typically from the past 3-6 months.
Income earned from Mauritius-based employment, Mauritian clients, or local business operations does not satisfy the requirement, even if the monthly amount exceeds US$1,500. The visa is designed for remote workers and international entrepreneurs; it does not permit visa holders to work for Mauritius-based entities or serve the local market as primary income.

04 · REQUIREMENTSWhat you need to qualify
The applicant must demonstrate monthly income of US$1,500 or more from remote work sources. This threshold applies to the primary applicant and must be proven through documentation such as employment contracts, client agreements, or bank statements showing consistent income flow.
Remote work proof is mandatory. The applicant must provide evidence of their remote work arrangement through one of three professional routes. Employees submit contracts with foreign-registered companies showing remote work authorization. Business owners or partners provide company registration documents from abroad and proof of their role as shareholder or partner. Freelancers submit client contracts or service agreements demonstrating their client base operates primarily outside Mauritius.
Valid health insurance coverage is required for the entire stay. The policy must remain active throughout the permit period and provide adequate medical coverage within Mauritius.
Proof of accommodation must be submitted. This can be a rental agreement, property ownership documents, or a confirmed booking with a Mauritian property. The accommodation must cover the intended duration of stay.
The applicant must hold a clean criminal record. A police clearance certificate from the country of residence or citizenship is typically required to verify this condition. Background verification checks are conducted as part of the approval process.
All work activities and income sources must originate from outside Mauritius. The applicant cannot work for Mauritian employers or serve clients based predominantly in Mauritius while holding this permit.
